Alumni Spotlight: Jordan Cromwell

Meet Jordan. KIPP Baltimore alumnus and recent University of Pittsburgh graduate. Jordan plans to go to Emerson for an MFA program in Creative Writing. After that, he wants to to write for TV cartoons and create a cartoon of his own.

It’s college graduation season! At KIPP, we’re celebrating our alumni. Over the next month, this blog will feature KIPP alumni from the college class of 2015, sharing their hopes, challenges, and advice for their younger peers.

My future plans:
With my college degree, I first plan to go to Emerson for an MFA program in Creative Writing. After that, I have quite a few options: become a screenwriter, a staff writer for a TV show, a writer for a movie, a novelist. I want to choose all of those options, but if I had to choose one, I’d make cartoons. I want to write for TV cartoons and create a cartoon of my own.

If I hadn’t gone to college:
I don’t know what I’d do, really. I can’t really see a world where I didn’t go to college, so I guess I’d be doing almost anything anywhere; I’d just be unsatisfied with it.

My advice for KIPPsters entering college:
Expand your horizons, take advantage of this opportunity, and learn. College is what you make of it, so try to have fun with it.

One last tip would be, “Don’t let anyone waste your time.” Time is precious and there are many groups and events competing for it in college. Try to stick to the activities where those involved in the planning are putting one hundred percent of their own effort.
